"acre"

at the crossroads
when you’re lost;
don’t call to the sky.
the hell hounds who
come may not
bring you gifts
or tidings of good cheer,
but bad dreams
and spoiled teeth,
sad memories
and dark depths
you’d rather forget.

the moon won’t cry
for your poor lost soul;
it never did and it never will.
the crows will laugh
when you’re ready
to die,
and toss you back
to the waters.

don't try to crawl
into the sea;
she will spit you back out
like rotten food.
only those who
die at sea have
the privilege of living there;
you are not
one of them.
the pelicans
will swallow you whole
and you will
be lost forever
in their caverns.

Something a little strange, inspired by images from "A Thousand Acres" by Jane Smiley. Nothing to do with the actual plot.

Also, thinking about the sea reminds me of these sort of fried seaweed dumpling things that we had in Italy. They were almost like lumps of fried bread dough, but really salty instead of sweet. Pretty tasty, as a matter of fact.

)))Almost caught up!(((

Now that's something I can say is very different! I liked the first three lines most, nice job. :)

Beautiful. My great grandfather died at sea, and these lines touched me.

I really love this! :+favlove:

Was he buried at sea? Not to worry you, but it's apparently really bad luck not to bury at sea someone who died there.

Thanks for the fav (worries aside). :D

“We’re heading to the sea,” Archer told the clump of leaves. “Want to come?”

Yes, he was buried at sea. :) No worries.

And, you are welcome. :D

I sort of realized after I sent that, that even if he hadn't been buried at sea, what would you do? Haha, me being silly.

I would dig up his remains and break the family curse, of course. :D
